We’ve tried coming up with a joint top ten, and although a lot of our rooms overlap, we found it impossible to agree on ten rooms that were both deserving of this honour. So here are the lists of our top 10 escape rooms (which will change from time to time)… These were last updated back in 2022 (I think), so they’re long overdue an update *coming soon
Gord’s Top Ten
Rank | Room | Why? |
---|---|---|
1 | Lab Rat - Hatch Escapes | This was a great room from start to end. The ‘room’ was huge and was like being in a maze and it contained very clever yet topical puzzles that worked perfectly. This room was exceptional and it will take a lot to beat it. |
2 | WunderWaffe Operation Quartz | One hour of pure adrenaline with an ending that would be hard to beat. Take a bow Escapement, you've earned it! |
3 | Stash House | Not just a room, but set up like a house there was so much to do and so much to investigate, I can’t help but love this room. Lots of puzzles and plenty of surprises, a unique experience that we haven’t seen since. |
4 | Sub Terra - Co-Decode | Such a great room I don't even know where to start. Beautiful designs, great tech and puzzles. Just every aspect was enjoyable |
5 | Venus - Guildford Escape Rooms | No room has given me more fun in a room than Venus has. From start to end we were laughing at the interaction with Venus, and ignoring that, the puzzles were well thought out and designed |
6 | Judgement D.A.V.E - Bewilder Box | This room had fun puzzles, and despite not being the biggest space, it was perfectly formed. Everything fitted in the theme, and the ending takes it to another level - make sure you choose right. Perhaps I am biased as I was a fan of Red Dwarf? |
7 | The Pit - The Escapement | A lengthy intro by Dave the GM immersed us in the story and the room carried it through perfectly. So much fun in this room and every single puzzle was on theme, perfect. |
8 | Battle for Britain - Escape Plan Ltd | I’ve always had an interest in WW2 due to my family history so I knew I was going to enjoy this room. Starts off slow and traditional but the ending was one that gets the heart pumping and won’t be forgotten. |
9 | Pirates of Polaris - The Escapement | I love pirate themed games and this excelled. The story as you progressed through the ship was spot on and just everything about this game was good (even if we did slightly break it, sorry). |
10 | The Bewilderbox Initiative, Bewilder Box | A great GM and fun puzzles made me love this game. There is a lot of hype about the games at Bewilder Box and rightly so. Another little nostalgia trip thrown in for good measure |
Liz’s Top Ten
Rank | Room | Why? |
---|---|---|
1 | Lab Rat - Hatch Escapes | This room was simply a delight from start to finish. Amazing set design, clever and inventive puzzles, unique concept, incredibly immersive, hilariously abusive clues, and a great company. I had a smile on face the entire time we played, and to date, this is the pinnacle of Escape rooms for me. |
2 | The Pit - The Escapement | Absolutely gorgeous set design, an interesting backstory, with clever puzzles, a hint of theatricality, and a bit of fun thrown in, I honestly don’t know who wouldn't love this room. |
3 | Sub Terra - Co-Decode | There was literally nothing not to love about this room. Everything about Sub Terra is just beautifully designed from the puzzles to the set; it’s everything I look for in a game. To top it all off, the owner is so nice, and a genuinely lovely guy |
4 | Venus - Guildford Escape Rooms | While the set design of Venus wasn’t anything amazing or spectacular, it didn’t need to be. It was, however, one of the most fun games I have ever played, and the interaction from VENUS was a massive part of that. I’m not sure I have ever been that entertained in an escape room, but you do get out of it what you put into it |
5 | The Comms Room - Escape in the Towers (Canterbury) | I can’t say enough how much I loved this room. I never felt like I was playing a game. I actually felt as though I was saving War-era Canterbury, and the epic conclusion here is one not to be missed! |
6 | Stash House | From the moment we rang the doorbell by the green light on a rather dodgy building in a questionable area of LA, I was hooked! The space was massive, puzzles were clever, and there was just so much to do. |
7 | Pudding Lane - Time Trap | When a game has clever, engaging, and interesting puzzles on top of a fantastic set, it is automatically in a position to compete for a spot on my Top Ten favourite games. Pudding Lane was a delight from start to finish, and although I prefer to play in a team of two, even playing as a team of five couldn’t put a dampener on this experience. |
8 | Judgement D.A.V.E - Bewilder Box | Both rooms at Bewilder Box were fantastic, but Judgement D.A.V.E was really on a completely different level. My love for this room springs from some really very clever puzzles, which gave me an enormous sense of satisfaction once they finally clicked. The dry humour and comments from both D.A.V.E. and the Masternet 9000 didn’t hurt either! |
9 | Red Giant - Questroom | With a set to rival any film, I immediately felt like Lara Croft. Combine this feeling with a bit of excitement from the set at several points, and an ending that I have yet to see anywhere else, this room was a memorable experience. |
10 | Zoe - Escapade Games | You may be surprised to see this room in my Top Ten (I know I am) given that I generally dislike horror themed rooms, but once I got over my initial fear, this was just a really fun, albeit creepy experience, as long as Gordon went through doors first! Zoe is the standard to which I hold other rooms for the immersive factor, and the reason that this is now a vital part of what makes an amazing experience for me. |
