We were only the 3rd team to escape the horrors of Killjoy, but not because the game is unfair. It will challenge players to think outside the box, but the solution is there if you look hard enough. But I can see this style of game being very hit or miss with players.
Housetrap
Housetrap: Camelot (Indian Queens)
Camelot is one of those games that really has no right to be as big as it is. It’s chocked full of puzzles and it’s quite a work out to get around them all. We liked most of this game, but one key decision regarding hints left a bit of a sour taste. Don’t let that put you off though, it’s a fun game, and Housetrap are upping their game with each new room they open – they’re certainly on our radar for anytime we’re in the area.
Housetrap Escape Rooms: Tribe (Bodmin)
Although not the biggest or flashiest game out there, we clicked with the puzzles in Tribe and I would actually say it’s possibly my favourite game at Housetrap
Housetrap Escape Rooms: Abducted (Bodmin)
Considering this game takes place in a caravan, it was very easy to forget that fact. Set design was decent, puzzles were fun (although perhaps a little heavy on decoding/translating), and the ‘no-gm’ start worked well.
Housetrap Escape Rooms: Seance (Bodmin)
Of the games that we played at Housetrap, across both venues, Seance was my favourite. With a spooky atmosphere and a few jump scares, the real highlights for me were the moments of supernatural activity, and the surprises that came with it. Plus, the puzzles were pretty good too
Housetrap Escape Rooms: Aquarium (Bodmin)
This game would probably be a good choice for a family if you’re looking for an escape room near Bodmin, enthusiasts also may enjoy it, but for us it just didn’t click. The game had a cute feel to it but the puzzles weren’t our cup of tea.
Housetrap Escape Rooms: Tumbleweed (Indian Queens)
Despite the odd setting in Gnome World, we were pleasantly surprised by Tumbleweed. It had good set dressing, solid puzzles, and nice and open gameplay, the fact that it was 90 minutes was also a bonus. If you’re in Cornwall, this one is worth a detour
